Telia, the leading telecommunications company in the Nordic and Baltic countries with over 160 years of leading innovations, has recently partnered with AirborneRF, a world-leading platform developed by Dimetor to provide supplementary data that is critical for safe beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) drone operations.
The trial with Telia is part of the innovation project PNK, which aims to test, document and evaluate the possibility and expediency of using the mobile network to position – navigate – communicate with driverless flying vehicles out of sight of the operator but under supervision, safely and in accordance with laws and regulations.
Through the partnership, Telia aims to explore solutions for multiple UAV services, such as first responders, aerial mapping, inspection, surveillance and delivery. The partnership with AirborneRF demonstrates Telia’s commitment to driving business value and providing innovative solutions to the market using standard 4G and 5G, dedicated private local and public 5G networks, as well as cross border operations.
Dimetor’s AirborneRF platform has been deployed worldwide, including Australia, Europe, and North America, enabling organizations to access a cost-effective, high-quality, and customized solution for their UAV operations. The AirborneRF platform has received multiple recognitions worldwide for its innovation and contribution to the drone ecosystem, paving the way for drone deployment in various industries.
The partnership between Telia and AirborneRF offers an exciting opportunity to unlock the potential of the Nordic region. The trial in Sweden will test solutions that will ensure safe and secure BVLOS drone operations on scale, paving the way for the deployment of drones in a range of industries. The partnership demonstrates Telia’s commitment to driving business value with innovation, and AirborneRF’s suite of digitization tools offers a comprehensive solution that will enable organizations to focus on their core business.
Dimetor’s CTO, Thomas Wana, commented on the partnership between Telia and AirborneRF, stating, “Digitalization is a catalyst for innovation. With this partnership, we help open up the skies in the Nordic area for enterprise clients and other organizations to utilize Telia and AirborneRF solution to scale their drone operations. We are excited to see Telia’s innovative approach in the region.”
“We are working successfully with the AirborneRF team for the last couple of years and really appreciate the partnership. As part of the engagement, we are utilizing AirborneRF to provide aerial connectivity and ground risk data from Telia’s network for flight planning and risk assessment of BVLOS operations”, says Jan Pettersson, Head of Airspace Digitalization Initiative at Telia. “Providing dynamic and accurate data digitally, in an automated process, will help our customers to accelerate the deployment of groundbreaking services in the digital airspace”.
Dimetor is a software company bridging the data gap between communications service providers (CSPs) and the aviation ecosystems. Through its world-leading platform AirborneRF, they help provide supplementary data that is critical for safe BVLOS drone operations. AirborneRF focuses on (a) the 3D corridors in space that have sufficiently good connectivity for drone operations (e.g. for networked remote ID, command and control, payload communication) and (b) the population density for ground risk assessment based on anonymized cellular mobility data. Developed by experts in mobile communication networks, aviation and drone technology, AirborneRF also provides live notifications from the CSP networks in case of any issue during flight operation. Dimetor’s software has been deployed worldwide, including Australia, Europe and North America.
